· Waterfall Hike - Trail 14 Black Elk Wilderness

Mountains To Prairies Bed and Breakfast/facebook

Sam generously supported my desire to go adventuring with a friend today. "M" and I hiked in the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve to see the seasonal waterfalls. We followed the creek along Trail 14, into the Black Elk Wilderness, stopping frequently due to the 90 degree temperature. We encountered backpackers along the trail, resting in the shade of an enormous rock (...enormous being the typical size of the rocks in this wilderness!) - The photos are in consecutive order. Click the map and enjoy!

· Custom Omelet of M2P

Mountains To Prairies Bed and Breakfast may deliver more than expected - as happened a few days ago when a hungry guest, who had just returned from wild turkey hunting, chose three eggs for his Custom Omelet. These three cracked eggs show that our chickens go the extra mile.

The turkey that got away...

Rainy days make things to do,
mixed in with nature's changing hues—
Days when the sky is deeper blue,
such beauty deepens the eyes' glad view.

- He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.' (Job 37:6) - We are experiencing a little confusion here in the central Black Hills and Hill City. Sunday, Mother's Day, was 'drive around on the backroads with the windows roll...

· Special Delivery, from the Bread Fairy!

The afternoon of May 11 a large and completely surprise package was delivered. Since nothing was expected, I asked the delivery man how to send it back, concerned that I may be required to pay for the unknown something if I open the box. Glancing at Sam who was standing behind me, the man then checked the label and assured me that it had my name on it, but I could seal up the package...(further instructions weren't absorbed as I was somewhat dazed). The man glanced at Sam again, smiling as he went out the door.

The mystery box was opened post haste, to reveal a Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme! This was a much desired piece of equipment, but Sam said he hadn't ordered it. Suddenly the thought occurred to me that it may be the very Zoe that I had ordered for 'someone' from 'someone else'...possibly delivered here by mistake. (My heart sunk a bit, admittedly, even though I was very happy for 'someone', who wasn't due to receive this beautiful machine for another 11 days.)

Sam, strangely, didn't think it was a mistake. So I looked closely at the label. It had a billing address on it, not ours, although the destination address was indeed here, with my name. Well, the fog lifted...I clearly recognized the address of the Bread Fairy, immediately accepted the gift and toted it to the kitchen with a baker's supreme joy.

We enjoyed the most incredibly fragrant Italian Herb Bread with our Buffalo Chili last night!!

The first loaf, a tasty whole grain bread!

· Memorabilia Shelf

Mountains To Prairies Bed and Breakfast - To give Sam a break from all the building projects for guest rooms, I requested a shelf above the kitchen window. Now I can enjoy my collection of memorabilia (mostly related to granddaughters) without it being considered clutter on the windowsill. Thank you, Sam!...with a Sweet Spiced Chai Latte, since you are so sweet.

The pink sticky note on the mirror was stuck there by our oldest granddaughter just before it was time to return home for the school year. The note says, 'I am here, I ♡ U', three times. smile

· The Micro-Shelf Strikes Again!

Sam did a little re-do on the microwave shelf in the Bluma Madle Suite and now he is building a log-accent shelf near the micro setup, for guests...a place to stash goodies.

Probably no-one cares except Sam, but I'm headed out to get lasagna fixings. Sam contends that there ARE more important things to do than watch rhubarb grow. sigh :)

· Major Lake Wildlife Loop!

Mountains To Prairies Bed and Breakfast - Sam and Linda walked around Hill City's Major Lake near dusk yesterday, enjoying cool spatters of snow and the sights...from Canadian geese, to a hungry beaver, a soaring heron, disturbed mallard ducks, and wild crocuses. This morning at 5:30, checking on the RHUBARB found its spreading leaves weighted with snow. The frequent precipitation helps ensure a beautiful forest for tourists this summer.
